Product

3 common questions

Where do your hulls come from?

Our buckwheat hulls are Midwest-grown and packed in Thompson, North Dakota. They are mechanically separated, air-cleaned, and screened through a sieve to reduce fines and very small fragments before packaging.

Are there allergy concerns?

Buckwheat hulls are a natural agricultural material. Prairie Fill hulls are air-cleaned and screened to reduce dust and small fragments, but small amounts of natural field dust may remain. If you have buckwheat, dust, or bedding-material allergies, ask a qualified healthcare professional whether this fill is appropriate for you.

Do buckwheat hulls make noise?

Buckwheat hulls make a soft, natural rustling sound when they shift, similar to dry leaves. The sound is part of how the loose hulls move and mold around you. Compare quieter alternatives in our fill material guide.

Fill amounts

2 common questions

How much fill do I need?

The amount depends on the dimensions of your pillow, cushion, or project and how firm you want it. Use our fill calculator for a transparent estimate based on an approximate fill density of 10 to 11 pounds per cubic foot. See the zafu guide for meditation cushions or the bulk guide for multiple items.

Is there a bulk discount?

We do not publish a separate bulk-discount schedule. You can order multiple 6 lb or 8 lb packs at the listed prices. For a larger project, contact us with the amount you need and we will tell you honestly whether Prairie Fill is a practical fit.

Care

2 common questions

Are buckwheat hulls washable?

No. Buckwheat hulls should stay dry. Empty all hulls from a pillow or cushion before washing its cover or liner. Hulls that become soaked can lose their useful texture and should be replaced. Follow the full buckwheat pillow washing guide.

How long do buckwheat hulls last?

Kept dry and protected inside a sound liner, buckwheat hull fill can remain useful for years. Hulls gradually polish and compress with use, so you can refresh the feel by adding a small amount of new fill when needed.

Shipping & returns

2 common questions

Do you ship to my state, and how fast?

Standard ground shipping is included in the displayed product price for the lower 48 states except North Dakota, and our current checkout adds no separate shipping charge. Prairie Fill ships from North Dakota but does not sell or ship to North Dakota. We also do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, or international destinations. Orders usually leave Thompson, North Dakota, in 1 to 3 business days.

What is your return window?

Eligible buckwheat hull orders may be returned within 30 days of receipt. The hulls must be unused and in their original, unopened packaging. Customers pay return shipping unless the return is due to our error. See our returns policy for details.
